Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Canada Minister Jason Kenney is proposing changes to theTemporary Foreign Worker program in Canada. The suggested changes are aimed at strengthening the protection of Temporary Foreign Workers in Canada.
“Temporary Foreign Workers play an important role in the Canadian economy. We have a duty to them, employers and all Canadians, to ensure that the program is fair and equitable,” Kenney said.
The proposed changes include a more rigorous assessment of temporary job offers by Canadian authorities, limits to the length of a worker’s stay in Canada before returning home, and a two-year ban from hiring Foreign Workers for employers who do not provide Temporary Workers with the compensation, occupation and working conditions they were promised.
