Governor General honours volunteer for helping immigrants with their settlement in Canada

Governor General of Canada Michaëlle Jean has honoured a New Brunswick woman for helping newcomers with their settlement in Canada.

Suzanne Dugas has helped immigrants to Canada adapt to their new home and way of life for decades. She has invited immigrant families into her home and familiarized them with their new surroundings.

For this reason, she was given the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award, an award established in 1996 to honour Canadian individuals or groups who make contributions and provide assistance to their communities on an unpaid, voluntary basis.

"I was very surprised, pleasantly surprised. When you do things you don't do them with the idea that you're going to receive something. It's very nice to be recognized for the things that I've done," said Dugas.
