Two sources in the past week reported a potential influx of Greek immigrants which could be on their way to Canada.
News1130 in Vancouver, and Metro News in Calgary, reported that these respective city’s Hellenic organizations have both fielded a huge increase of calls from people in Greece with interest in immigrating to Canada.
According to News1130, the President of Vancouver’s Hellenic Community Center Peter Kletas said “It’s a wide variety that we’re getting… from labourers to university professors.”
And the Metro News quotes John Yannitos, President of the Hellenic Society of Calgary, who said “A while ago, it was in the dozens . Now we’re approaching a hundred-plus inquiries, and that’s just in Calgary.”
The two cite the terrible economy in Greece, and the continuing application of stricter and stricter austerity measures, that have combined to leave Greece residents looking for other options, including packing up and leaving for Canada.
