Foreign Credentials Referral Office: Progress Report

the CanadaVisa Team - 22 July, 2015

Launched less than a year ago, the Foreign Credentials Referral Office (FCRO) is a tool to help newcomers and prospective immigrants obtain the information they need to prepare themselves for work in Canada in their fields.

The Government of Canada has recently released a progress report to measure the FCRO’s success. The report describes the information and referral servicesprovided to newcomers and prospective immigrants and outlines the office’s key achievements since it was established.

"The FCRO is helping newcomers to Canada use their talents in the fields for which they’ve been trained," stated Citizenship and Immigration Minister DianeFinley. "By helping immigrants find out how to get their credentials assessed and recognized more quickly, especially before they enter Canada, theirchances for success will improve."

The FCRO website, which offers information about occupations in various locations in Canada (local labour market, job duties, skill requirements, wagerates, etc.) has seen a lot of traffic from outside Canada.

Among other FCRO achievements, the Canadian Immigrant Integration Project, which provides preparation services and credential requirement awareness sessions in China, India, and the Philippines, has been expanded. Additionally,in-person foreign credential recognition referral services are now available at 320 Service Canada centres across Canada.

The progress report was released for the National Conference on Foreign Credential Recognition, which took place on April 22nd and 23rd. The conference washeld to enhance coordination and cooperation among stakeholders from federal, provincial and territorial governments, regulatory bodies, credentialassessment agencies, immigrant-serving organizations, business and employer associations, and post-secondary educational institutions.
