The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has named Canada as a model to other countries on how to accept new immigrants and migrant workers.
In a report entitled Overcoming Barriers: Human Mobility and Development, UNDP ranksCanada among a small group of countries with generally fair and open policies that benefit both immigrants and their new home country.
"The report really singles out Canada as a model as a receiving country," David Morrison, the executive secretary of the United Nations Capital Development Fund, said.
In addition, Canada was singled out for what it provides to newcomers upon their arrival, such as access to health care services and education.
“Canada is again singled out in that regard for what it offers migrants once they arrive," Morrison said.
