Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) announced that humanitarian workers stopping through Canada on the way to providing relief in earthquake-ravaged Haiti will not require temporary or transit visas for the time being.
In addition, the temporary and transit visa requirements are temporarily being suspended for evacuees transiting through Canada on the way to other countries.
“The devastation caused from Tuesday’s earthquake has created an urgent need for help and to be flexible. We are doing what we can to facilitate the travel of those affected by the humanitarian crisis in Haiti,” said Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Canada Minister Jason Kenney.
Two humanitarian flights to Haiti, from China and Russia, have already made technical and refuelling stops in Canada. CIC said that this measure will allow more non-commercial aircraft to refuel or make technical stops in Canada on their way to or from Haiti.
More special measures are expected to be introduced in the coming days. Canadavisa.com will keep you updated on the developments.
