Canada to speed up adoption and immigration process for Haitian children
Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Canada Minister Jason Kenney announced yesterday that Canada would be expediting the adoption process for children affected by the earthquake that struck Haiti last week.
Adoption cases of Haitian children by Canadian parents that were already in the system when the earthquake took place will be processed on an expedited basis. Citizenship and Immigration Canada has sent a team of officers to Port-Au-Prince, Haiti and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to process these and
other priority cases.
However, Kenney cautioned that the Canadian Visa Office in Haiti has been damaged by the earthquake and services are currently limited.
