The Government of Canada has recently signed Labout Market Agreements (LMA) with the provinces of Alberta, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador to ensure that all residents have the ability toparticipate and contribute to the workforces in each province. The new LMA's focus primarily on helping people move from lower-skilled work to better jobsin sectors such as health care, construction, and manufacturing.
Similar agreements will be signed with other provinces in the coming months.
The agreements are part of Advantage Canada, the federal government' long-term economic plan to create the "best-educated, most skilled, and most flexiblework force in the world." The Government of Canada will invest $500 million annually over the next six years to increase the size and quality of thenational work force.
Under the plan, $316 million will go to Alberta, $46 million to Newfoundland and Labrador, and $12 million will be invested in Prince Edward Island'sworkforce over the six year period.
A portion of these agreements addresses providing additional training for immigrants in order to help them enter the workforce more quickly.
