Canada invites 521 PNP candidates in latest Express Entry draw

Canada invited 521 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates to apply for permanent residence in Canada's latest Express Entry draw, held on September 15.

The draw happened one day after the previous draw, which was a draw specifically for Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates.

The PNP is an immigration program that allows Canadian provinces and territories to nominate immigration candidates who may address provincial labour market needs.

Those who were invited during this PNP-only draw needed to have a score of 732 according to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) in order to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Candidates now have up to 60 days to apply for permanent residence.

The CRS score may seem high. This is because those who get a provincial nomination get an additional 600 points. This means that the core points required for today's draw was just 132.

Draws have been program specific since the beginning of the pandemic. This is because of the health and safety measures introduced by Canada. Many of the candidates that are eligible for CEC or PNP are likely to already be in Canada on a temporary visa.

Canada surpassed its targets

So far in 2021, Canada surpassed its target of inviting 108,500 candidates in 2021. Today's draw brings the total number of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued up to 108,935.

Canada has pledged to welcome over 400,000 new immigrants every year for the next three years - 401,000 in 2021, another 411,000 in 2022, and 421,000 in 2023.

What is Express Entry?

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Canada's federal immigration department, uses the Express Entry system to manage permanent residence applications through Canada’s three main economic-class programs:

Those in the Express Entry pool are given a score according to the CRS. This score is based on many factors such as their age, work experience, education, and their language proficiency in French or English.

Candidates who get an invitation to apply must submit their application. After that, IRCC will then make a final decision.

Successful candidates will get a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) as well as a visa sticker on their passport if they need one. The final step would be to move to Canada and receive their Permanent Residence (PR) card.
