In the latest Express Entry draws, Canada invited a total of 3,512 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residence.
Canada invited 512 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residence. Those who received an invitation were Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates. This draw was held on August 5.
The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score needed to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for this draw was 760.
Immigration candidates who get a certificate of nomination from a Canadian province get an additional 600 CRS points. This suggests that the minimum core points needed, without the additional points, was just 160. Having a high score such as this effectively guarantees getting an ITA in the next Express Entry draw.
A day after this Express Entry draw, Canada held another draw, inviting 3,000 Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates to apply for permanent residence.
The minimum score that candidates needed for this draw was 404.
Canada is yet to hold an all-program Express Entry draw. The country has been focusing on PNP-specific and CEC-specific draws since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is because of the travel restrictions that have been put in place since March 2020.
As we start to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and as the travel restrictions are eased, we may see the first all-program draw of the year sooner rather than later.

The Express Entry system is used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) uses the Express Entry system to manage Canadian permanent residence applications made under one of the main economic-class programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
All Canadian provinces and territories except for Quebec and Nunavut are part of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), and have immigration streams aligned with the federal Express Entry system.
Candidates who have an Express Entry profile are given a CRS score, based on the information you provide on your profile. This includes factors like your age, education, work experience and language proficiency.
Canada regularly invites the highest-ranking candidates with Express Entry profiles to apply for permanent residence in an Express Entry draw.
If you get invited to apply, you can submit your application to IRCC, who will then make a final decision. You can expect your application to be processed within around six months.
If you are successful, you can get a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and a visa on your passport if you need one to enter Canada. Finally, you will have to move to Canada and get your Permanent Residence (PR) card.
Canada is committed to meeting its immigration targets this year and is looking to invite many more people to apply for permanent residence. The country is looking to welcome over 400,000 immigrants every year until 2023.
