Express Entry

Express Entry is Canada's application management system for three economic immigration programs - the FSWP, the FSTP and the CEC.

In a standard draw, candidates are assessed based on their human capital factors and assigned CRS score. This score is used to rank them against the other candidates in the Express Entry pool. When IRCC conducted an Express Entry draw, those with a CRS score above the cut-off score for a particular round of invitations would receive an ITA during that draw.

Since June 28 this year, IRCC has conducted Express Entry draws focused on attracting immigration candidates with specific attributes that with the country's most in-demand skills. These are called category-based Express Entry draws. The following lists the six new categories chosen as priorities by IRCC in 2023, meaning that Canada has chosen to prioritize immigration candidates with work experience or proficiency in these areas:

• Healthcare
• STEM professions
• Trades
• Transport
• Agriculture and agri-food
• French-language proficiency
