Vimal Sivakumar - 31 July, 2024
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted a second Express Entry draw this week. Read on for the results from the department's July 31st Express Entry draw.
In the department's second Express Entry draw this week, IRCC has issued an additional 5,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in a round of invitations for Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates. All ITA recipients from this draw had a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 510.
Today's draw follows a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw yesterday (July 30, 2024), which saw IRCC issue 964 ITAs to candidates with a minimum CRS score of 686.
Express Entry
Express Entry is the name given to the system used by Canada's immigration department to handle applications for three economic programs - the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the CEC.
As of June 2023, IRCC issues ITAs through three different types of Express Entry draws: General, Program-specific and Category-based.
General and Program-specific Express Entry Draws
General and program-specific Express Entry draws prioritize the selection of immigration candidates based on their CRS score.
Note: CRS scores are the numerical values assigned to each eligible Express Entry candidate, used by IRCC to rank candidates against each other based on a variety of factors. Some of the factors used to determine a candidate's CRS score are their age, their education, and their ability to speak one or both of Canada's official languages.
As outlined below, there are three general steps in the Express Entry process for candidates who are eligible for IRCC's general and/or program-specific draws.
*It is at this time, during step two, that eligible Express Entry candidates will receive their CRS score
Note: In order to receive an ITA, a candidate's individual CRS score must be greater than the department's cut-off for a given Express Entry draw. Without this invitation, no Express Entry candidate will be permitted to submit an electronic Application for Permanent Residence (eAPR) to IRCC.
Category-Based Express Entry Draws
First introduced in May 2023, category-based draws are a new way for IRCC to bring in immigration candidates who can address Canada's most pressing labour market and demographic needs using specific types of work experience and proficiencies.
Note: IRCC conducted its first category-based draw on June 28, 2023.
For this year, IRCC has chosen to target immigration candidates who possess the following attributes:
