The Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heraldo Muñoz, has announced that Chilean citizens wishing to visit Canada as tourists or in transit to a third country will no longer require visas. Citizens of Chile will only require a passport in order to enter Canada.

Chile becomes the first Latin American country to receive this benefit, which exempts citizens from having to apply for and obtain a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) before travelling to Canada. Visitors can remain in Canada for up to six months on a single visit.

"A recent review of the policy of visas determined that Chile meets the requirements of Canada for an exemption from visa. This decision is based on a comprehensive evaluation that analyzed a number of criteria," said Minister Muñoz.
