Family day was later implemented in Saskatchewan in 2007 and a year later in Ontario. Most people in the three provinces have a day off from work and school to spend time with their family. Special activities are aimed at the whole family, such as ice skating, watching movies, visiting art museums, and attending special public events held for this holiday. Others decide to take the long weekend to travel to visit family or friends.
Manitoba also celebrates a holiday on the third Monday in February, although it is known as Louis Riel Day, while the second Monday in February is celebrated as Islander Day in Prince Edward Island.
As Canadian winters can be long, a day of fun and celebration with the family can be the perfect remedy for the winter blues.
