This week, Canada celebrated Citizenship Week, a week for all Canadians to celebrate their citizenship and to welcome new Canadians in citizenship ceremonies all across the country.
"It is a time to reflect on what it means to be a Canadian and to be grateful for the rights and freedoms that we enjoy. We should also take this opportunity to acknowledge our responsibilities to our country and to our communities large and small," Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Canada Minister Jason Kenney said.
Celebrated from the 19th to the 25th of October, the theme of this year’s Citizenship Week is "Our Citizenship," reflecting the common values of new Canadians and people who have been citizens for a long time.
"We want all Canadians to recognize that, no matter where you came from, when you become a Canadian citizen, Canadian history becomes your history and Canadian values become your values," said Kenney.
