Canada celebrates Black History Month

the CanadaVisa Team - 21 July, 2015

February is recognized in Canada as Black History Month, "our annual remembrance of the struggle and the achievements of black Canadians, who have played a vital role in Canada's history," noted Citizenship, Immigration, and Multiculturalism Canada Minister Jason Kenney.

All month long, Canadians pay special tribute to the contributions of black people. Awareness is raised about their history in different ways, from academic pursuits, to cultural activities, and business initiatives.

The theme of this year's Black History Month in Canada is "Building Canadian Identity". Among other things, projects and initiatives this year will recognize black Canadian Olympians and will shed light on the black contribution to Canadian war efforts.

"Black History Month not only advances education and recognition of black history, but also promotes Canada's tradition of cultural diversity, reflectingour unique stories while celebrating our common national identity."
