Canada becoming more diverse
Statistics Canada (StatsCan) released a report today that projects that by 2031, almost a third of the country’s population will be foreign-born.
This would be the highest proportion of the population that is foreign-born since 1931, when 22 per cent of the population was born outside of
Canada.
In addition, StatsCan projects that 71 per cent of people from visible minority groups will live in cities such as Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, the top three destination cities for immigrants.
StatsCan prepared the report for Canadian Heritage, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) and Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).
