British Columbia project aimed at hiring immigrants

the CanadaVisa Team - 17 January, 2011

By 2015 more than 1 million jobs will be available in Canada due to the aging population. As Canada has a low birth-rate, there will not be enough workers to replace the soon-to-be retiring employees. Embracing Cultural Diversity in the B.C. Workplace, funded by the Province of British Columbia, is a project aimed at informing employers of the benefits of hiring immigrants.

The project’s website, www.getintheknow.ca , has a multitude of resources for both employers and potential employees. Employers can learn how to recruit and hire immigrants, while new immigrants can search through a list of settlement agencies, English language training centres, and employment programs. Training sessions will also be given to employers and new immigrants.

Hiring a diverse workforce can help a company stay competitive as immigrants can bring a range of opportunities and skills, such as speaking multiple languages and understanding diverse cultures. As many industrialized countries are facing a similar situation as Canada, the project creators understand the need for Canada to be more competitive in attracting immigrants.
