The Government of British Columbia issued 218 new invitations to apply for a provincial nomination to Skills Immigration (SI) and Express Entry BC (EEBC) candidates in a new draw held July 9.

The new British Columbia draw invited an unspecified number of candidates in each of the following five categories: SI — Skilled Worker; SI — International Graduate; SI — Entry Level and Semi-Skilled; EEBC — Skilled Worker and EEBC — International Graduate.

The BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) periodically invites a set number of the highest scoring candidates in each of these categories to apply for a provincial nomination.

While the invitation scores for many of the previous BC PNP draws ranged between 75 and 105 points, the July 9 draw had a higher minimum score range between 80 and 110 points.

Points are assigned when candidates register through the BC PNP’s Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) and are awarded based a number of factors — such as level of education, years of direct work experience and a B.C. employment offer.

EEBC categories are open to immigration candidates with a profile in the federal Express Entry system, which manages the pool of candidates for Canada's Federal Skilled Worker ClassFederal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class economic immigration categories.

An additional 600 points is added to Express Entry candidates’ Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score after they are approved for a nomination.

Skills Immigration candidates who receive a nomination will have their Canadian permanent residence applications processed outside the federal Express Entry system.

The first step for most foreign nationals who would like to be considered through either the Skills Immigration or EEBC streams have to first register an online profile with the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) through the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS).
