British Columbia has issued 27 new invitations to apply for a provincial nomination in its latest Tech-focused draw, which took place on May 23.
The invitations were issued to eligible British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) candidates who have a valid job offer in one of its Tech Pilot program's 32 key technology occupations.
The BC PNP launched the Tech Pilot in 2017 in order to assist the province's technology sector with attracting and retaining foreign tech workers and international students who have completed their education in BC or elsewhere in Canada and have skills required for BC’s technology sector.
Candidates invited under BC's Express Entry- ed streams, such as the EEBC - Skilled Worker and EEBC - International Graduate streams, receive 600 additional points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) if their application for provincial nomination is approved.
For candidates invited in the Skills Immigration categories, applications for permanent residence are processed outside the Express Entry system after they receive a successful nomination from the province.
Individuals interested in immigrating to Canada through the BC PNP must first submit an online profile with the BC PNP and complete all sections of the registration form.
Once a profile is assessed, applicants receive a score based on civil status, education, work experience, and other factors. They are then entered into BC PNP selection pool.
BC PNP candidates must have an indeterminate, full-time job offer from an employer in the province to become eligible for the majority of Canadian immigration categories managed by the BC PNP.
The minimum scores for each category involved in the May 23 draw were as follows:
Date | Category | Minimum Score Required | Number of ITAs Issued |
---|---|---|---|
May 23, 2018 | EEBC – Skilled Worker | 91 | 27 |
EEBC – International Graduate | 91 | ||
SI — Skilled Worker | 86 | ||
SI — International Graduate | 92 | ||
SI — Entry Level and Semi-Skilled | 60 |
It is important to note that an invitation to apply to the BC PNP is not the same as a federal government Invitation to Apply or ITA.
