Twelve Canadian immigrant students were recently honoured as the recipients of the second annual RBC Royal Bank Scholarship for New Canadians program. These students were selected from over a thousand applicants based on their academic achievement and their application essays. In these essays, the applicants give their take on how immigration has shaped Canada, and outline their personal experiences and advice to others who are going through the same process.

This scholarship program was launched last year to recognize the importance of immigration to Canada's cultural, social, and economic development. It is intended for students who have been through the Canadian immigration process, have graduated from high school or CEGEP in Canada, and plan to pursue full-time studies in at a Canadian post-secondary educational institution this fall.

This year's recipients immigrated to Canada from China, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, India, Germany, Iran, and Australia.
