British Columbia held another invitation round this week, this time selecting entrepreneurs in addition to Express Entry candidates and skilled workers.

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) issued 437 invitations to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence on October 29.

Of those, 413 were distributed among the Skills Immigration and the Express Entry BC categories.

The Express Entry BC category is for candidates with a valid Express Entry profile in the federal pool of candidates. It is meant to facilitate the immigration process for skilled workers that meet BC PNP criteria and who intend to settle in the province.

The Skills Immigration category is a stream for skilled and semi-skilled individuals whose occupations are in high demand in the province of British Columbia.

Minimum score requirements ranged between 93 and 102 in these streams.

The remaining invitations went to candidates in two Entrepreneur Immigration categories; 19 for the Base Category and five for the Regional Pilot.

Experienced entrepreneurs who want to establish a business in one of B.C.’s regional communities or who can actively manage and invest in a B.C. business may be eligible for one of these categories.

To qualify under Entrepreneur Immigration categories candidates must demonstrate business and management experience, have a net worth of at least $300,000 in the EI — Regional Pilot category and $600,000 in the EI — Base Category.

The minimum score for the Entrepreneur Immigration Base Category was 114, while the Regional Pilot required 110.

BC PNP categories are managed under B.C.’s Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). In order to apply through the SIRS, eligible candidates must first register an account, then they are assigned a score based on factors like education, work experience and language proficiency.
