We landed today at YVR airport. Flew from US on a red eye flight and arrived about 7:00am.
First went through customs where we answered some questions at a kiosk and scanned our passports and took our photos. Took the print out slip to the CBSA officer who we told "we want to validate our confirmation of permanent residence". She directed us to another line where we waited to see another CBSA officer at the customs booth and we told him the same thing. He stamped the slip and checked our passports then told us to collect our baggage at the carousel then proceed to the immigration room.
There is an information desk before you enter immigration and she told us that we had to leave our larger baggage outside (including a stroller). We realized the reason was because the room has narrow walking room, and if everyone brought all their baggage inside, then you would not be able to walk easily. We obliged and chose to leave all our baggage out front. There are vending machines and bathrooms inside the immigration room.
There was no one waiting in the immigration room, which has a capacity of maybe 40-50 for seating. There were two CBSA officers and we were assisted immediately. The officer asked us if we were married "yes", if this was our first marriage "yes", if we had ever been convicted of a crime anywhere "no", have we ever been refused entry to Canada "no", and if there were any additional dependents "no". He also asked how much money we were carrying "none" and our address. He told us to take a seat and then called us back after less than 10 minutes and told us to sign all the COPR copies. Told us that PR card would arrive after "2-3 months".
I think we were lucky in terms of the wait, since we arrived so early, we were probably at immigration by 8:00am. There were a few other people that came into immigration while we were waiting, and I noted that there were a total of 4 international flights arriving or arrived by the time we got to immigration.
Couple questions:
1. The officer did not write the landing date on one of our COPRs. Will this be an issue when we apply for SIN or health card?
2. Can we take validated COPR to NEXUS enrollment center to update our immigration status or do we need to wait for PR card?
