I applied under spousal sponsorship regulations. I am iranian but applied to Canadian embassy in Damascus because The embassy of canada in Tehran doesn't accept immigration applications !!!!
17 june is the date when immigration file number is issued by Canadian embassy in Damascus.
I received a letter on 29th july in which the immigration officer asked for right of permanent residence fee. many ones told me that this is a very positive sign means that the immigration officer already made a positive decision and I'll get my PR card very soon.
Here s the letter:

This refers to your application for permanent residence in Canada. Please send the following documents:



- The attached Residency Questionnaire should be completed and signed by yourself after consultation with your sponsor.

- Have your sponsor pay the Right of Permanent Residence Fee of $ 490 on your behalf in Canada and forward the receipt to the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga.



Please note that if you do not comply with this request within 60 days of the date of this letter, your application for permanent residence in Canada will be assessed on the basis of the information already before the officer. Failure to provide the requested documents could result in the refusal of your application.


I need to be able to attend university on time ( beginning on 20th September )
can any1 make an estimation about how long does it take time to finalize my case ?

Did you fill in the form and send it back and pay the RPRF to them? And we cant tell you when you should recieve it only they know.All you can do is cross your fingers that its here before school starts.

Yes. I filled the form and pay the fee and sent to them. I know no one can tell me the exact time ! But I need to get a sight about it !
I mean based on previous applications, how long does it take time to usually issue the pr card after their request of RPRF ?

I am applying for my husband through Damascus, he is also in Iran.My file was transferred to Damascus on 30th March, since then I have not received anything from the embassy. I have heard that Damascus visa office is very busy, and if you check the website you will see that processing time for Damascus changed since last month.The good news is, all the cases will be finalized within 8 months.I wish Damascus finalize our cases faster.

Im sorry Rezan but every case is different,they could send the same letter to someone else and its done in a couple weeks then yours could take a month there is just no way of telling but i cant imagine it will take 2 months,did they request you for an interview yet?even if they ask you to pay the fee does not mean its final,but its a good start.You just have to wait,if someone tells you its a couple weeks and yours didnt come for a month??
There are so many different variables,they asked us for the fee from sao Paulo then a week later she was requseted for an interview so its all different.

No they didn't ask for an interview. My immigration consultant believes that normally it wouldn't take more than 2 months which you indicated in your speech as well.
dear eli, my file transferred to Damascus on 07 june and since then I received only one letters from them in which they were asking for right of permanent residence fee.
Please share your experiences and ideas

Have you already submitted the right of permanent residence fee of 490$ with your application ? Maybe it is the reason for which they haven't sent you anything yet.

Sorry for the late reply, I just saw you question. when I applied, I sent the whole package, fees ,medical ,photos and ....(My consultant recommendation).
I agree with iarblue, the are many other factors responsible in these cases.My friend case finalized just in 2 months with the same embassy. My husband traveled a lot,I believe this is the reason it takes us so long.I hope you are the lucky ones and get your visa before your university starts.

the reason for which I am asking this question is that there are two idea in my mind.
1) I think their letter requesting right of permanent residence fee means that they are processing my case right now and at least they have a positive view to requesting such thing because this fee is refundable so they won't ask it to be paid just for fun ! and they ask for it once they are sure that they want to issue visa.
2) I think maybe they are not reviewing my case, only check all applications submitted to their office and try to complete those which are not complete and after reviewing all of them one by one. So maybe it's not my time yet !
I have sent my medical, all fees and documents except RPRF.
I hope the first choice will be applicable to me !
Please let me know if you have received anything from them.
