I appear to have been given 20 extra points in EE profile without making any changes.
Checking on the IRCC website it now says:

Changes to the Express Entry system

You can now earn up to 50 additional points for strong French language skills (even if French is your second language).

Scored NCLC 7 or higher on all four French language skills and scored CLB 5 or higher on all four English skills = 50 POINTS

this is definitely a lot of incentive to learn French. I can see more people taking up French to improve their shot at getting a Canadian PR.
