Well to be fair, it depends. They will closely examin your reference letter, cross check it with your salary statements, use internet to see if company is legit and if they feel the documents you submitted are not at par with their evaluation standards, they will call your employer.

In certain circumstances, CIC call employers to check on you. That is not a frequent procedure.
