Wrong name on AoR, Other general questions

My wife sent in her application early July and just yesterday received the AoR and Discover Canada book. The only odd thing was that the letter was sent to my name (I was born here in Canada). The only reason I can think of is that when we made the payment, it specifically states that you have to put the name of the credit card holder. We used my credit card as my wife didn't have a card that we could use. We very clearly wrote a note on the receipt that the payment was made on behalf of my wife and had an otherwise clear routine application.

Should we be concerned that the letter was sent in my name? Has anyone dealt with this issue before?

Now that we have the study book, on average how long does it take to get the test invite? Weeks, Months, towards the end of the expected 2 years?

Lastly, we have booked a couple trips out of the country in October and December. Is it recommended to call into CIC to note the dates we will be out of the country so that there is not an exam scheduled while we are gone? Or is there a different way to confirm this with them?

Thanks for your help!

Interesting.. No, the name and the AOR will be send in the name of the person mentioned in the application form, COPR, PR card, Passport etc.. Payment name has nothing to do with AOR.. Yes, you must call them and inquire...

I know several people who have used different credit cards for payment and the aor was sent in the name of the 'applicant' and not the owner of the credit card.

Thanks, we will enquire, but we found it very odd at the time. Because when you make the payment online the only name information it asks for is the name of the person on the credit card, I expected it to ask for a client ID number or something at the next step to confirm who the payment was made for, but then it was just the final receipt screen that you needed to print to send in with the file.

Has anyone else experienced issues with this?

I'd appreciate any thoughts about the other questions as well!

Thanks!

If it helps, We received our study guide in February 2013 and were called to take the test in May 2014

I would think that it would he "highly unlikely" to be called for a test so soon, but it doesn't hurt to call CIC and have them place a note on your wife's file. We were unable to take the test in May 2014 because we were away on vacation and out of the country at the time. We called CIC as soon as we returned and they said that we just needed to sent them a letter explaining why we couldn't attend and send proof of travel documents such as airline tickets & hotel receipts. We were then invited to take the test on July 29th, 2014 and will be attending our oath ceremony this coming week.

I'm telling you this to reassure you that it is not something to worry about, if you are away. For us it just delayed becoming a citizen by two months, which in the grand scheme of things is nothing.

I wish you all the very best.

GoCanada - CIC does not care who makes the payment as far as it goes through.. Of course, when you make a payment online the system will ask for the credit card information and hence you put all of your details... If it goes through, then you are good to go with the payment... After you print the receipt, that is where CIC asks you to include the : Name of the applicant, date of birth, CLient Id., address etc (these are handwritten on the receipt). This is for the CIC filing purposes and to include the right receipt for the right person... Didnt you write the name of the applicant and other details on the receipt (handwritten).

Thanks everyone for the responses.

Sept15 - Yes we did write all the relevant information about my wife on the receipt, but we were just suprised that when they sent the discover canada book, the envelope and AoR were in my name and not my wifes name. Hopefully it's not a big issue and can be resolved over the phone or better yet without having to change anything.

Quick Update: We were able to sign into ECAS today, and within that it showed my wifes name and not mine. So that's a good sign at least.

Timeline:
Delivered July 3
In progress Sept 5
Received AoR and Discover Canada book September 12
