Hi all,
Does anyone know how long it takes to cancel an application?
I am an international student at UBC. My husband and I are Malaysians and have been living in Vancouver since 2015. In June, we went to Malaysia for a quick visit. However, when it was time to return to Vancouver, we realized that in addition to our study/open work permits, we also need valid TRVs to enter Canada. Ours have expired when we were in Canada.
We submitted an application a month ago and then realized that we have submitted the wrong one. Instead of applying for a TRV for my husband, we submitted an application to extend his stay as a worker. This application package was received based on the questionnaire we filled in on the IRCC website. The embassy in Singapore has confirmed that the application form is for those applying from Canada. Come to think of it now, I guess we may have answered some of the questions wrongly by selecting Canada under Country of Residence. We selected Canada because we live in Canada and have an address there since 2015, and we are only in Malaysia for a short break. Had the question ask us which country we are applying from, we would have answered Malaysia.
Nevertheless, a request has been submitted to cancel the application. The request to cancel was submitted three weeks after the initial application was submitted.
How long does it normally take to cancel the application? Can we submit a new application before getting a confirmation that the current one has been cancelled?
It would be great if you guys can help advice.
