WP with LIMA vs. OPWP

Hi guys,

since a while I try to figure something out but I am lost and do not get any result.

Situation:
My current employer will not renew my WP (expires June).
Their explanation:
1. It is very costly (1000,-)
2. They would need to pay me 17,-/h (right now it is 13,-/h)
but
they would renew me if I have an open work permit.

What I wonder about is:
How come that they would need to pay me 17,-/h but if I have an OWP not?

I know that the new law with the new LIMA costs is active since June 2014.
That's why they could renew all my collegues last year in March/April before this was active. But I can not figure out where this hourly wage comes from?
Isn't it the plan that a foreign worker is not supposed to take away a Canadian the job?
(No, I don't, my specific skill is my language and it is really hard for my company to find Canadians who are still native in their "old" mother tongue)
And isn't it the plan that if a foreign worker is hired he is supposed to get the same wage as the Canadian in the same position?
(Yes, I have actually 1 co-worker who is Canadian with the same job)
How come that now it is all of a sudden 17,-??

I applied under CEC so I hope to get the BOWP.
It is all pretty complicate as I am currently in Quebec but I don't have intentions to stay here (I got the damn job here and it was a chance and French was not required).
NOC is 2283. And I would try to get another job of course but I want to be more or less safe until I have PR.

Has anyone an idea where to find more information?
It would be not the first time that our HR told us bu****it.

Thanx in advance.

You can find wage information here:

http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/report-eng.do?area=9219&lang=eng&noc=2283&action=final&ln=n&s=1

In the end it's really up to your employer if they want to renew your work permit or not.

So why not applied for an OWP? so you can apply for a different job if you don't want to stay with your current employer. It is better to apply for OWP so your current employer won't get any hold from you once you got your OWP.

Hello,

yes, that's what I will try of course.
I was just wondering, as it says that the wage for a TFW must be equal the wage a Canadian or PR in the same occupation and geographical region gets.
When a company applies for LIMA. And of course my company doesn't want to do that anymore because it is too expensive for them.

I mean I have Canadian collegues with the same job as I do and they also just get 13,-/h or even less.
Isn't it then a kind of unfair? Companies will still abuse the system and just try to get people with open work permits as then they do not need to pay them properly.
It seems we are all just replacable numbers, sadly.
