Hey all,

I couldnt find a topic similar, apologies if this has been recently answered.
I am an Australian citizen, 27. I currently hold a IEC open work permit until Jan 30 2016, and decided I want to try and extend(or apply for a new open permit)

I rang the contact number on the cic.gc.ca website and from what I've been told and researched, I have to apply from the beginning. Yet any links I can find take me to the Stage 2 of the process, where I upload conditional acceptance letter, along with other documents. Basically, if someone had a link, or point me in the direction to get to the very beginning of the process, that would be great. Feels like I'm running in circles right now.

EDIT: I found I have to create a "Kompass" account, I am wanting to apply for 2016, as that is when my current visa expires, but it is currently closed. Any idea on when they will open for next year applicants?

Thank you

Yes - if you want to participate in the IEC program again, you will need to apply when the program reopens. It's going to be a while before CIC announces the date - but expect it to be sometime in March of next year. So you will have to stop working between the time your current IEC expires and the new one becomes available. Participating in the IEC program is the only "open work permit" that is open to you.

If you don't want to go this route, your currently employer would have to obtain an approved LMIA so that you can apply for a closed work permit and continue working. The LMIA process also take several months to complete and costs the employer $1,000 in fees + job advertising costs.
