My WP expires in 2 weeks, May 23d. I've applied for PR through EE but haven't gotten an invitation yet and realistically my score is not high enough to get it anytime soon. So, I'm going to leave Canada approximately July 1st or August 1st the latest. Do I need to get a tourist visa? If I'm not mistaken there is this period of 90 days while I can still remain in the country after my old visa and WP expires and that will be enough for me to get ready and leave the country. Don't want to pay for the tourist visa if that's not necessary.

you need to switch to a visitor visa.
I've gone through a questionnaire on the CIC website and the first question is about if I want to stay for less than 6 months or if I want to stay for more than 6 months. So, in my situation, can I stay in Canada for more than 6 months? Will it be a supervisa then? I am confused.

if you select more than six months the system is going to check your eligibility for study visas and express entry. you're only looking to get visitor visa so select less than six months.
