Hello,

This guy I work with, we'll call him Tom, is about to have his temporary work Visa expire and as such is thinking about applying for his Canadian Citizenship. He's Australian and kinda set his Aussie ways. Anyway, I'm not really sure he would make a great Canadian. As a great Canadian myself, is there someone I can call to give a heads up about Tom. You know, let them know that he's probably not going to work out?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If he is doing anything criminal, you can tell immigration but you should first tell the police. If it's just that you don't like him, tough luck.

He can not get citizenship right away anyway. He will have to apply for permanent residency first.

So what do you mean by " He's Australian and kinda set his Aussie ways? "

and

What makes you such a perfect individual?????

Well, it's kinda hard to explain but I guess if I had to sum it up I'd say Tom is really crude and ignorant. He always swears and uses the C word (even in front of women) and he drinks a lot. He even smells of alcohol some mornings. Also, I can't prove it, but I think he uses the marijuana. I found some rolling papers in his glove box one day. A friend of mine told me this is quite common amongst Aussie type people.

I think it would be a great idea to have some sort of hotline that you could call to report people like this so they could be watched for a while before granting them citizenship. I know there's nothing the police can do because I can't prove he uses the marijuana, but if he could just be followed around for a while and watched, I'm sure immigration would realize that he probably isn't going to work out.

Anyway enough of my ranting, I guess it's not a perfect system. I'm just getting a little sick of his racism. I shouldn't let it get me though.

Thanks for listening...

So you are not ignorant when you generalize all Australian as being pot smoking drunks? I don't smoke pot or drink. In fact until I moved to Canada I had never seen as much pot smoking as I do in Canada. And Canadians drink just as much as Australians!
How does having rolling papers in his glove box suggest he smokes POT? Is there a number we can call to report you as a nosy snoop? What gives you the right to go through peoples personal belongings? Are you a thief?

And you call your self a Great Canadian? Your nothing more then a biget!

well there is no way he can obtain cdn citizenship because he must obtain PR status first. That is not as easy as it used to be anyways under the new laws.
You should not take things personally.
There are good and bad people everywhere so just go with the flow.

why are you making his business your business? you can find people like this anywhere, you just have to be tolerant. who are we to judge if he's going to be a good citizen, in Canada or anywhere else? just get on with your life and don't let his negative vibes bother you. the world has its own way of making things right, it might not be now, it might now be by not granting him Canadian PR but it will happen one way or another... What goes around comes around right?

Ya, you guys are right. Thanks rubyalabar and canvis2006. I guess I should just stop worrying so much and accept that things will be ok. I just get so worked when I think of all the good people trying to get into this great country of ours and then I think of Tom coming in and bringing with him all his harmful Aussie ways.

In the future I will try to be more accepting. After all, that is what being a great Canadian is all about isn't it?

Thanks for all your replies!

You say "his harmful aussie ways? And I will try to be more accepting. After all, that is what being a great Canadian is all about isn't it? "

Well you are not a great Canadian! Your are a small minded racist biget. And it's clear you have no idea about Australian people! 95% of Canadian I meet are fair open minded people. You are not one of them!

I must admit, the OP does seem to be very racist.

This is NOT what being a Canadian is....Canada is all about nationalities coming together.

I am not Australian but find your comments about Australians extremely offensive and personally think you should be the one reported and followed around, especially as you seem to like snooping around other peoples belongings.

That is certainly NOT being Canadian at all.

Canada is a sovereign nation, not an episode of Survivor, we're not here to vote each other off the island.

I know some Canadians who would not make great Canadians. It takes all kinds.

This is the most obvious trolling post I have ever seen. :) Thanks for the laugh, TYZ1!
