Would parental leave trigger an RQ?

Hi

With the birth of our child birth, my wife and I have had parental leave in the past four years (my wife had 8 months, I had 2 months). Some of our leave overlapped and we did travel during that time to visit family.

I see that an RQ can be triggered by unemployment with travel, but is anyone aware or has experience of receiving an RQ due to parental leave alone? We did both return to our existing jobs after the leave, so with the requirement to include "work documentation" in the application I will be including T4's and T4e's that cover that time. Is there perhaps anything else I could include in the application to prove ties with Canada (though I am hesitant to include anything that isn't requested in the checklist)?

Thanks

Hi Pedros,

you should be fine. Can you provide a written letter explaining the parental leave situation. Further you can also provide the sanctioned letter from your employer for the same. Your case is strong as you have child in Canada and both you and your wife work. CIC understands parental leaves are generally taken to help family.

In my interaction with the CIC, the more information and evidence you can provide, the better. So while it's not in the checklist, include a letter explaining your absence, include the letter from your employer and finally the T4/e's. It would suck to submit an RQ containing the same evidence three or four months down the line if they suspect any issues. Good luck with your application.
