Hi all,

I'm Jay, new to the forums here.
Actually I got a recommendation to the forums here from a friend in the states.

So sorry if this question has already been asked many times here before (which I'm betting it has) though I did a bit of a search but there's too many topics to read through so I thought I'd be able to get a direct answer if I made a thread about my problem.

Okay so here goes, I'm currently an Australian working in Ontario on a working permit visa which has a 2 year limit.
I've been here since October 2009, working the same job which I found within 2 weeks of my arrival.
Now because my work visa will expire in roughly 4 months, which will then require me to leave Canada and reapply for a work visa to re-enter and work again.

I have decided I want to continue to job and make a career from it here so I wish to apply for permanent
(or even temp) residency status so when my visa expires I will not be forced to leave the country.

Now, I've already been to the Canadian Citizenship & Immigration Resource Center (CCIRC) and submitted my application which has now been approved.
Which basically goes on to state if I will follow through with their assistance I need to pay them X amount of dollars (which I believe was around $2k - expensive!)

Now, my questions are:
- Is it safe to trust these guys to submit my application for permanent residency and be able to obtain it within 4 months before my working visa expires?
- Is there a cheaper, faster method to obtain permanent residence if I'm already working in Canada and meet all requirements?

Sorry for the long thread.
Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Cliffs:
- On a working visa from Australia. Working visa will expire in 4 months.
- Need to apply for permanent residency status.
- Need the quickest, safest and cheapest method to obtain this.

Thanks!!

The immigration lawyers cannot guarantee you anything. They only help you navigate the process. I would not pay them.

It sounds like you would only be eligible for permanent residency if you apply as a skilled worker or can apply under CEC (Canadian Experience Class). In any case, I don't think PR is ever granted within 4 months.

It won't be granted within 4 months. No way, no how. I can't speak for the firm you are talking about. Are they lawyers or consultants? If consultants, make sure they are registered with the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants and are members in good standing. I have to tell you, I'm a little suspect of any lawyer or consultant who would make a promise like that.

The bigger question is if you actually qualify for any of the economic programs. What's your job title?

The firm I am referring to is simply immigration.ca so they seem like the go to website to deal with this, however am I skeptical especially when a large sum of money is involved to submit my application through them.
I'm guessing however my chances would greatly increase since they are an organisation dealing with people applying for permanent residency status.

So I guess there's no possible way to receive a permanent (or even temporary) resident status within this short time frame? Damn, I guess I'll have to renew my work visa then.

My job title is material handler AKA warehouse logistics.
Does it fall under the skilled job category?
I also have certified qualifications in retail and the automotive industry as a vehicle refinisher.

Basically when I filled out my application with immigration.ca they stated I am more than qualified since my English is excellent and I can also speak and read basic French.

What do you guys suggest I can do then?
I know I should've applied earlier, I am regretting not doing this now.

Temporary is completely different than permanent. Getting a new LMO and work permit could be done in 4 months. This is temporary. Permanent residency cannot be done in that short of a time frame. It doesn't matter is they do this everyday or not.

$2000 sounds like a lot of money but it's pretty average for a law firm (they are lawyers) to charge for an LMO and WP. Material handler is a skill level D position in the National Occupation Classification Matrix and is NOT eligible for any of the economic streams unless you live in Saskatchewan or Manitoba where there may be an opportunity under the Provincial Nominee Programs.

keep on reading different threads here, especially the previous posts. you will learn a lot. try to visit as well the cic website, check which category you may fall on to. you don't need to seek the help of the immigration consultants once you'd learn the procedures. keep on reading. if others were able to apply by themselves through the guides of cic checklist and reading their experiences, for sure you would be able to do it as well. there are lot of helpful forumers here who's willing to help everyone.
