If a foreigner is working in Canada on a work visa, is s/he allowed to work remotely from outside Canada occasionally for a few months? If yes, for how long at a time? Asking since my father lives in India and is old, he needs my help every few months per year.

She is allowed to do that as long as her company allows her to do it. Note that the time spent working outside of Canada will be counted as foreign work experience and not Canadian work experience for the purposes of PR.
