working permit extension refused, wrong code, help and advice

I was working as a skilled worker until last Monday when I received the notice that my working permit extension was refused. The documents that my employer provided to IRCC has the wrong code for my position, thus my working permit extension was refused.

My employer institution has taken full responsibility and admit the mistake and is willing to solve the situation.

Eventually, I know that I cannot work and I am not working. Also, I know that I have 90 days to apply for "Restoration of status" or leave Canada.

I am wondering if leaving Canada for a day or so and come back, and ask for a new working permit (eventually with all the documents) at the port of entry is a good idea.

My family (all dependents) will remain in Canada meanwhile. After I get the new working permit they will apply for a restoration of status from Canada or travel to St Pierre when the ferry is active (early April).

Also, we already applied for PR under the provincial nominee program but the process still ongoing.

Could someone give some advice? Do I need to change my status to a visitor before I leave Canada? Do my dependent has to change their status?

Thanks
