Hey guys, I got my study permit a couple days ago at the Canadian/US border in Coutts, AB and it says in there "May accept employment on campus of the institution at which registered in full-time studies", does that mean that I'm allowed to work on campus but not off campus? Because according to the new rules since June 1, I thought I would be allowed to work on or off campus without a work permit...I'm confused, please help. thanks.

Hey, my wife is in Canada now and she is having similar problem. She went to the SIN office and she was told she cannot get a SIN card because she is not allowed to work off campus.
Does your study permit state that you are not allowed to work off campus?

Oh man that sucks, no it doesn't say anything about working off campus in the permit, just the one sentence I mentioned before and that's it.. but I asked the border officer about it and he said that I'm allowed to work off campus.. but then I don't understand why they don't mention it. Good luck to your wife!

I submitted the application on July 30 via mail and got the confirmation that it has been approved on August 19. So after the changes took place.

Work off campus
Study permit holders in Canada may gain work experience by working off campus while completing their studies.

As of June 1, 2014, you may qualify to work off campus without a work permit. If you qualify, your study permit will allow you to work up to 20 hours per week:

during regular academic sessions and
full-time during scheduled breaks, such as the winter and summer holidays or spring break.
To qualify, you must:

have a valid study permit,
be a full-time student,
be enrolled at a designated learning institution at the post-secondary level or, in Quebec, a vocational program at the secondary level, and
be studying in an academic, vocational or professional training program that leads to a degree, diploma or certificate that is at least six months in duration.

so if u read above rules if u have study permit issued after 1st june u can work dont worry what ur study permit says I know a guy I saw his study permit If u read the next line u will see what it meant so ur good to go u can work on or off campus

Thanks you so much for the advice. My wife submitted her application on May23 and got approval on July4th. Her study permit clearly states that she is not allowed to work off campus, so I guess the only option for her now is to apply online after getting her letter of enrollment letter from the college

Thanks a lot for the advice, I think what I'm gonna do about it is that I'll call the CIC Call Centre tomorrow to make sure and get that confirmation from CIC, just in case.. Because I wouldn't want to get caught working off campus and then being deported or what not...

But when i read it from CIC
On or off campus work authorization on a study permit

You can amend a valid study permit if one of the following conditions or remarks does not appear on the document:

May accept employment on the campus of the institution at which registered in full-time studies
May work 20 hrs off-campus or full-time during regular breaks if meeting criteria outlined in section 186(v) of IRPR
May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186(f), (v) or (w). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria

To amend your valid study permit to reflect one of the conditions or remarks listed above, submit a photocopy of your letter of acceptance or enrolment from your current designated learning institution.
I still confuse that i can amend my study permit.
Thanks
