HI,

I am currently living and working in USA ( H1b) and working for a reputed IT firm based on India.
I m looking for jobs in Canada and willing to settle down here.
I have 7 yrs IT work experience and my core is IBM AS400.
I have just started to look for jobs in canada.
Can anyone please tell me ,if any employer will offer me a job and sponser me a canadian work permit?
How is the market for AS400 now in canada.

Thanks.

If you are interested in finding a job in Canada, you should be looking at reputable job web sites such as the Canadian Job Bank, monster.ca, and workopolis.

Thanks Scylla,

I have already started with my job hunt. But my question here is ,
1. How is the current canadian job market for IT?
2. Will I be offered job without any work visa, will my employer initiate my work permit?
3. I heard companies are preferring candidates only with PR status for job as there are lot of confusions with work permits , Is it so?

It's quite difficult to get a temporary work permit for an IT job. In order to hire you, an employer must first prove they couldn't find a Canadian for the job. There are many skilled IT people already in Canada and looking for work - and for this reason, it is typically difficult for foreign workers to secure IT employment in Canada.

Companies definitely prefer to hire those who already have PR status or citizenship. It is much easier, faster, and less expensive to hire people with PR status/citizenship.

Good. Lots of work.

Not likely. As Scylla said, there are many people in here already in the IT industry and more coming each day.

Why would a company hire you when they can hire someone who has already all their papers in order? Unless you have a skill that is VERY rare you won't be offered a job.

Anyway answering your question, if you get an offer (which implies the employer proving to the government that no one already in here can do the job) then YOU are the one who should get the work permit. The employer would only give you a LMIA and the job offer.

No.

They prefer people who can start to work as soon as possible. Tops 6 weeks from first contact, usually 2 weeks after final interview.
