Hi Experts,

I am a Canadian Permanent Resident recently got married (3 months ago) in India then came back to Canada and started working for a company in Toronto. I do have all the required documents with me such as PR Card, SIN Card, Passport, Job Offer letter, Employment Proof, ID Card, Employment benifits and extra health coverage proofs.

My wife is in India, she has passport, election card, education certificates and marriage certificate. She is all set to apply for PR now.

But here are my questions ...

1. I applied by my own from USA, but don't wanna take risk this time since i am not with her. Is it a good idea to go thru a consultancy in Chennai / Hyderabad ?
2. I know that I need to send spouse sponsorship and other agreements, but do I have to notarize all my xerox copies (pr card, passport etc...) it look so expensive in Toronto which costs 30$ each copy. Is there any place where they can do it for free or minimal cost (like banks or govt offices...) ??
3. Do you think my wife can apply PCC immediately that she can have it ready after applying her PR then she can submit it to Consulate whenever they need it. Is it a good idea ?
4. Is there a Risk if she apply by her own ??
5. Any idea how long its gonna take ??

Kindly reply back to me, its really very important and urgent for me. I need to decide on these things soon to take a step ahead.

Thanks,

Rupesh

You can probably do it yourself. Even if you use a consultant, you and your wife are still the ones who have to gather all the evidence and provide the details needed to fill out the forms.

You only need to notarize photocopies if the Regional Guide for India says to. I checked; it looks like you do not need to notarize photocopies. You do need notarized or certified copies of anything that is translated, however.
3. Do you think my wife can apply PCC immediately that she can have it ready after applying her PR then she can submit it to Consulate whenever they need it. Is it a good idea ?
Police certificates and the health check are to be submitted with the original application.
4. Is there a Risk if she apply by her own ??
No more risk than if you used a consultant, usually. If you have a lot of trouble understanding English, then a consultant can be helpful. As well, if your case is very complicated, a consultant or immigration lawyer should be consulted.
5. Any idea how long its gonna take ??
New Delhi is a fast office. It will take about 90 days to process the sponsor's part of the application, and then 6 months in New Delhi for the applicant's part. These are just averages; your case could be quicker or slower.
Here is a link to the CIC website that lists the processing times:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp

Do you think my wife needs to submit her medicals along with her PR application ?

Thanks,

Rupesh

Thanks for your great reply !!

Medical report from a DMP should also be submitted together with the application.
What you have to do is follow the country specific instruction ( IMM 3904 ) and arrange the papers to be completed by your wife. Let her complete and sign all the papers wherever necessary together with the documents and send it to you. You can review and submit all the papers together with your part to CPC Mississauga up on completion.

Re: Working in Canada with PR need to sponsor my spouse who is in India + RISK ?

Still have some questions. I got married on Feb 12th 2012 then I came to Canada on May 7th started for working a company.

Here is the real situation ...

I sent my documents to my wife who is in India now...
1. IMM1344
2. IMM5481
3. IMM5401 - PAID THE FEE 1040$ IN CIC WEBSITE TOOK THE RECEIPT PRINT
4. IMM5540
5. NOTARIZED PR CARD, SIN CARD, JOB OFFER LETTER, JOB ID CARD, ORIGINAL LETTER FROM MY PROJECT MANAGER, BANK STATEMENT FROM RBC AND ALL OTHER JOB RELATED PHOTO COPIES.

My wife is preparing her documents, such as
1. IMM0008
2. IMM0008DEP - IS IT REQUIRED ?
3. IMM5669 SCHEDULE A
4. IMM5490
5. IMM5406
6. SHE IS PREPARING HER PASSPORT, PAN CARD, EDUCATION DOCS, MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE, BIRTH CERTIFICATE FOR NOTARY
7. SHE COMPLETED HER MEDICALS, SHE APPLIED FOR PCC NOW, WAITING FOR IT.
8. SHE HAS MARRIAGE, RECEPTION, HONEYMOON PHOTOS, HONEY PACKAGE WHICH WE TOOK FROM A COMPANY, EMAIL PROOFS AND ETC...

Once she completed and signed on all documents I asked her to fill out the 3904E (India specific checklist) before she send those docs to me. Then I will verify once again, will include the 5491 checklist before do a fedex to mississauga office.

Am I missing anything ? Now the issue is I heard from some one in Toronto saying that since I got married recently (4 month old) it's not so easy to get PR to my wife and there is a Risk too. He advised me to contact a Representative in India to do the process instead of doing it by my own.

Kindly advise on this...I truly appreciate your support.

Thanks,

Rupesh

It doesn't matter how long after your wedding you apply, it's no different. As for Imm0008(dep) unless you have children, no it's not. You can do it on your own easily. I'd say about 90% of people on here did it on their own.

It depends from country to country and culture to culture. In India, a majority of the marriages are arranged - hence it is normal for couples to not know each other well before they are married. Secondly, the scrutiny is tougher if the wife in Canada is sponsoring a husband - this is to ensure that the person is not marrying a Canadian just to come to Canada.

The forms and the guide are fairly straight forward, so it does not make much sense to have a consultant to represent your application. But its entirely your choice if you want to go ahead with a consultant.

Thnaks for both of your responses. I got confidence now, I will apply it by my own then. My wife will get her PCC in a week or 10 days, during this time we will make entire application ready that she can send everything to me.

I will also make sure once again with checklist before sending it to them.

Thanks again....

Xperts - Few more questions.

I am trying to fill IMM0008 application for my wife, stuck here. There is a question (Number 7) asking about a) Have you received your certificate de selection du quebec (CSQ) yes or no. If yes indicate the number, if no when did you apply for your CSQ ? Didn't really get it.

Also what is UCI ? My wife is in India now, what she needs to fill in that UCI column ?

One more thing is in Page 3, it says DEPENDANT(S) with full of details and there is a blue button which says 'remove dependent'. Since my wife is coming alone, we are newly married no kids for us. Can I go ahead and remove that using remove dependent button ?

Thanks in advance...

1. Are you moving to Quebec? If not, ignore it.

2. UCI leave blank, you won't get that until you have stage one approval.

3. Yes.

Xperts - I followed all your replies to apply for my wife's pr visa. I got an email last week saying that they approved me as a sponsor and they will be sending my wife's application to Delhi, India to process it further. It's a great yahoooooo news for me.

I think this week when I looked at the status in following website they commented that Medicals Have been Received.
https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/authenticate.do?app=ecas

Now we are waiting for passport request, does any one has any idea how long it will take to get my wife's visa from now. She is in India now i heard from others saying that it will take usually 2 to 3 months to get the visa in hand. True ?

We had paid Total 1040 CAD fee with credit card and provided the receipt along with application, also submitted the PCC and Medicals with application. Please comment on this...

According to CIC website, the standard processing time for 80% of completed application package for family class - spouse is 9 months for New Delhi Visa office.

Congratulations on getting approved, and welcome to stage 2! as said by wilson, New Delhi average is 9 months, but quite a few applicants are done before. So it's difficult to know. Count on 9 months, and if it comes earlier, that's even better!

the fee you paid is the correct one, and since your application is complete (PCC and medicals) then you only have to wait for passport request. New Delhi asked for the passport quite early in the process, and keeps the passport until the visa is issued... so you'll probably hear from ND in a few weeks. Then more waiting... at that stage there is nothing else to do for you than wait. there is a link for applicants going through New Delhi for 2012, here it is http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/new-delhi-2012-applicants-t109821.7320.html you can see there the spreadsheet with more information on the timeline etc, but remember that each case is specific and so it's difficult to predict anything. You can only do your best, and wait for the outcome.
Good luck,
Sweden
