Referring to one of my forum friends, i would i like to quote what he/she said " 1560hrs equals to 1 year which means 30hrs per week. 40 hours per week 2080 hrs which means more than 1 year experience". I disagree as i don't believe cic would be calculating this way. I disagree but i want views from you all. Please share your thoughts

1 year is 52 weeks. And as per CIC, 1 year of work experience is calculated as 1560 hours at the rate of 30 hours/week.

If you work for 60 hours/week for 52 weeks and accumulate 3120 hours, that doesn't mean you have 2 years of experience. You will still have only 1 year of experience because only 52 weeks have elapsed since you started working.

Hope that clarifies. All the best!

You are correct. The requirement for CEC is "at least one year of full-time experience (or the equivalent in part-time work)" where full-time is defined as "at least 30 hours per week." 30 hours per week, 40, 50, 80 hours per week - no difference, it is still one week of full-time work. 1560 hours is the MINIMUM required for part-time work (fewer than 30 hours per week), given as the equivalent of the minimum number of hours (30 hours per week) required to meet the definition of full-time work.

CIC specifically states that you cannot use "extra hours" to reduce the one year requirement. Nor can you use them to count as "extra" work time...

Just keep in mind that when you report longer hours per week of work, your rate calculation changes as well if you're on salary. The more hours you work, the lower hourly rate you're getting and possibly you'd fall under the median for your NOC which is another issue, i believe.

I wouldn't be concerned about that, for two reasons. First, there is no salary requirement for CEC; yes, you have to be in the ballpark, but it is certainly not scrutinized the way it is for an LMIA. Second, hourly rates are a completely different form of remuneration from annual salary. You have one or the other, not both; Depending on source of info, both are given for NOCs...
