Working holiday - visitor visa

Hello, my girlfriend is Japanese citizen in BC on worki holiday visa, it will expire end of April, we are planning to apply to change her visa to visitor visa so she can stay, what is the best way to do this? And are we able to make a trip to Japan during any of this time? Or will that cause problems? Thank you for any help!

If she plans to stay in Canada after her work permit expires, she’ll have to apply to change to visitor status.

You are free to go to Japan at any point, but if she wishes to re-enter Canada, she will be reassessed from scratch (if no decision yet on her extension when she leaves, the application will be abandoned) and must apply for a eTA to enter as a visitor.

Ahh okay thank you! So if her application is abandoned she would need to start new application from outland correct? Witch could take longer for processing?
