working freelance on the side as a foreign temporary worker

I'm currently working full time for a company in Quebec. I'd like to know if it's possible/allowed to do freelance assignments for my home country next to my full time job. My Visum does say I'm not allowed to work for a different employer, but does working as self employed under your name count as working for another employer?

If anyone could shed some light on this that would be great.

You can't work for any Canadian businesses/individuals on the side. You can work remotely for a foreign company.
