Hi,

I am in a bit of confusion, i am Indian foreign worker. I came here to Canada in Intra-company transferee from US branch, unfortunately there was company acquisition and new company planned not to acquire Canadian branch. So i believe my visa is not valid anymore and i have to find new employer who would apply for my work permit.

Meantime, the company that acquired (US based) has offered me temp contractor position. Can i work for the company to take care of expenses till i find a new job or would it be a violation???

You need an approved LMIA and a new work permit to work in any job other than the one you were brought here to work as part of the ICT.

Hmm..I thought LMIA approval is only for Canadian company, as the new company hasn't acquired Canadian branch it doesn't have any ties with Canada. I would only be working as Indian consultant for US Company. Please enlighten me a bit more. Advance thanks for your reply.

have you checked your legal status in Canada given you are no longer working for the Canadian company, do you have PR status at all.

Does this company have any clients in Canada? Does it do business with any companies located in Canada?

Currently i dont have any status considering the instance that happened. And the issued permit expires end of next year.

No the company doesnt have any clients here

so you would plan to work based in Canada as a consultant for a US based company that has no Canada based clients on an ICT permit that is no longer current given the company that the ICt was issued for to allow you to reside/work in Canada no longer exists in Canada ?

Pretty much yes. I am currently looking for new job before my permit expires (believing from the other thread, that i can stay in Canada even though the company is no more as long as the issued permit has not crossed its expiry date. ). Mean while can i work as consultant, would it comply?
