Hi all,

My (Canadian) Fiancee and I (Dutch citizen / US resident) are getting married in 2 weeks and will apply for sponsoring & residency in Canada the day after.
We currently live in San Francisco and want to move to Toronto in May.
I work for an American company in SF, and they want me to work remote for them.
They have want to switch me to a Canadian contract as soon as my Canadian work permit is in.
Would it be possible for me to work in Toronto keeping my US job until my work permit is processed?
Or are there other legal ways to go about this, without having to be apart for 6 months?

Thanks for the help.

You can work remotely in Canada for the US company without a work permit AS LONG AS you will be doing no work for Canadian customers / clients / companies.

Yes, it actually works in your favor to keep a remote job wth your american company. It will make it easier to get longer visits because they know you are not going to be attempting to find a job in canada and potentially take a job away from a canadian. It's really the most ideal situation since obtaing an LMO and work visa is pretty difficult and time consuming. This way you can still make an income and be in canada with your spouse. it's a win-win! Bring paystubs with you when you cross the border, they like to see you are getting paid from an american company to an american bank account.
