Hello,
I'm interested in doing engineering consultation for a US-based company. The US-based company does not have any holdings in Canada. I will be doing all of the work remotely in Canada. I have no idea where to start, can someone point me the right way?

Thank you,

Also look at requirements/obligations in your province of residence.

Assuming you're not employed, not incorporated, do not have a physical location in the US you should be able to contract with the US company without filing taxes in the US.

Note however that you will be taxable on any worldwide income earned and may have GST implications.
