Working abroad as a protected person in canada

Hello,

I hope someone could help me answer my question.

I am a convention refugee/protected person inside Canada and i recently got a job outside Canada (of course, not in my country of persecution). I am in a process of applying for a refugee travel document but i am wondering if a 12 months contract outside Canada will not affect my ongoing PR application or have any other impact on my status.

Good question and I don’t have definite answer, but I would think that as you don’t have PR status yet that not residing in Canada would be detrimental to your application. It kind of defeats the concept of Permenent resident if you are not in the country during processing. But again, that’s just a guess on my part.
Once you are a PR I would think it would be ok providing you meet residency obligations.

I dont have the confirmed answer but to be honest, I dont really suggest you do that. Get the PR and then do whatever you want! Travelling for 1 year as a refugee without a PR will sounds very suspicious and dodgy to the government. Hope this helps!
