Hi I'm asking on behalf of my friend who's currently working in Canada.

My friend was in school from 2012 and completed the program in May 2014. She was planning to leave Canada in Sept when her visa expires but decided to stay.

Long story short, she just got hired as a full time accountant/book keeper. She's trying to apply for LMIA work visa, however it doesn't seem like the people at work know how to help her process it other than writing a letter (I don't understand what letter it is). Apparently the company needs to post a job offer on jobbank?

What kind of information do we need from her work place aside from the letter? Is there anyway to increase the chance of work visa approval?

Any help would be great because she is struggling to get an approval and do not want to leave the country. Any link would help as well. Thanks

A letter certainly isn't enough. The LMIA process is quite complex and requires the active involvement of her employer. She should also be aware that she could be waiting several months for the LMIA to be approved.

First the employer has to advertise the job on jobbank and at least one other qualified site for at least one full month. The employer then needs to pay a $1,000 fee and submit the LMIA application which can be found here:

Next she must wait for the LMAI to be approved. This could take up to 3-4 months (possibly longer). Only then will she be able to apply for a work permit.

If her visa expired in September then she will need to apply to restore her status and change her status to visitor. The LMIA and work permit won't be done in time.

Apparently you can only apply for it within 3 months of graduation. She studied as an makeup artist but got a job in accounting (because she got a degree in accounting back in her country, although I don't know if that will affect anything)

Correct - you can only apply for a PGWP within three months of graduating and your study permit still has to be valid. Also, you must have attended a qualifying school. If she took a makeup artist course, it's entirely possible she didn't qualify for a PGWP.

She currently has a student visa only and is waiting for her temp visa. Does that mean she couldn't work at the moment until the temp visa gets approved?
