Ok so I have a friend from Japan who has been working in Toronto since October 30 last year, she has extended her work visa once.

Her visa expired midway in October, so she currently does not have a job(was working at Tim Hortons).
She applied for a Visitors visa and has a Plane ticket set for the 26th of November.

The question here is, as she is from Japan, does she Require a Visitors visa if she wanted to remain here, not working, for another few months.
I read that Japan was on the list of countries exempt from that.

So basically if her work Visa ended, what would be her status, if she has been here one year?

Also if she DOES need a visitors visa, what is the minimum length of time it is issued for? she is worried that because her plane ticket, which is for the 26th of November and was added as part of application, the Visitors Visa would expire also on the 26th.
Is this right?

Currently her work visa is running out very soon and she has not yet recieved this Visitor visa she applied for, what status does that make her?

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
It makes her status pending because she has applied to change her status from work permit to visitor and it hasn't gone through yet. Applying for visit visa extensions takes like 2 or 3 months so depending on what application she did, she might already be gone home before she gets an answer.

ok thank you, the other question was, does she NEED a visitor visa if she is finishing her work visa.
Is she able to stay in Canada for a few months as a visitor because of the exemption for Japanese needing a visitors visa, or would she have to leave the country and come back for that to apply.

Also is there a set length to the duration of her new Visitors Visa. Is it only valid until the date on her return ticket? or if she changed the date of her ticket would it still last for another 6 months or something?

Ask CIC if she can go to the border and come back in the country as a visitor. It's worth a try.

God bless you!
