Hi, my work visa is about to expire in the middle of July. My company lawyer applied for 2 year extension last week; this will take cic 75 days to process. I would like to travel abroad for couple of weeks and be back 17 days prior to work visa expiration i.e. around July 1st.
Do you advice travelling with such little validity on work permit? Do you foresee any issues at the port of entry? Can anyone please share their personal experience in this regard?
Thanks a lot!

Hi, I'll be in the same condition. Can anybody answer the question? Is it a problem to travel and come back to canada before the expiring date of the work permit, but while there is a pending work permit extension?
Thanks

In theory, there shouldn't be any problem. I have crossed by car the border to the US while on student and work permits that were close to expired and had no issue, but as anybody would tell you in the forum, with CIC there is always the chance, if small, that something that shouldnt go wrong, could. You should take with you proof of the current extension being processed by your company.

Thank you Clayera,

On the CIC site this condition is described but not very clearly, they say it might be problematic to travel while an extension is processing but they don't specify if this is true also before the expiring date of the current permit. I'll have to travel and come back 7 days before expiring date, I expect at least one question about that. As you suggested I'll bring all the documents that may help me.

Best,
