After your WP expires, you have upto 90 days during which you can apply for status restoration from within Canada - as a visitor or a worker (if you can get a job offer and an LMO). If you do not do this, you have to leave the country. Staying as a visitor would mean that you cannot work, so pursue this if you are ok to stay back in Canada for few months without a job.
With CEC, you can leave the country and later return when your PR procesing is completed.
